Hello, I want to introduce myself. I am Lucia DeChino and I have been creating some form of art my whole life. In my first blog I want to tell you who I am and how I became an artist.
One memory I have was when all of the students were asked to draw birds in the second grade. I had just moved back from Arizona and started a new school . After finishing the drawing many of the students came over to me and asked how I was able to draw such a nice picture. Then they asked me to draw birds for each of them.
That implanted in me this thought that I really was good in art. From then on I wanted to be an artist.
I taught art at the elementary level for 10 years finally leaving the profession. Then Sales, Accounts Payable and Receivable came my way but being an artist was always in my heart.
After exploring different mediums, my favorite way of painting is still paint on canvas. I started out using acrylic paint then left painting (that’s another story). When I picked up my brushes again I started to use oil paints. With oil paints you have drying time, portability and all of the different products needed to add to the paints and clean the brushes.
Ah, but the smell of oil paint. Nothing like it. You get transported back in time connecting with the Old Masters, the Impressionists and Fauvism. There is a sense of excitement that overtakes you.
With all of the new products I decided to try acrylics again. I love the array of colors, the portability, the quick drying time and only water to clean you brushes.
Thank You!
Lucia
